About the Albertine Prize for Kids

The Prix Albertine Jeunesse is a reader’s choice award based on the vote of young readers aged 3 to 14 years old, who cast their votes for their favorite book from a collection of Francophone youth literature available in English translation. The prize seeks to reinforce the practice and love of reading in both French and English.

Students enrolled in accredited French schools and public bilingual/dual language schools in North America voted; this year’s theme centering on “Coexisting”. A grand total of 518 classes participated, with 6,000 votes cast!

2023’s selection committee included the staff of Albertine Books, the AEFE network of North America, the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S., and the French Embassy in Canada. The selected books are divided into four categories according to age groups: 3-5 years; 6-8 years; 9-11 years; and 12-14 years. The picture book My Wounded Island (Mon île blessée) appears in the first three categories.

The Prix Albertine Jeunesse is presented by The Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
