Rick Moody Discusses Barthes’ A Lover’s Discourse

Author Rick Moody will discuss his own work as well as Roland Barthes’ essay A Lover’s Discourse: Fragments, an unconventional blend of literature and philosophy on the theme of love. Moderated by Adam Hocker, bookseller at Albertine.

Rick Moody is the author of six novels and several non-fiction collections and books, including his most recent work Hotels of North America. His second memoir The Long Accomplishment: A Memoir Of Struggle and Hope in Matrimony will be released in August 2019. He is a recipient of the Guggenheim Fellowship and has been awarded several distinctions, including the Addison Metcalf Award.

Originally from Indiana, Adam Hocker has spent his life travelling and working with books. After having taught English in China, he started working at Farrar, Straus and Giroux as their Sales and Marketing Associate. He then lived in Paris for four years, working as a translator and editor for institutions such as the Sorbonne and Éditions du Seuil. A seasoned bookseller, as well as a great lover of literature, philosophy, and music, Adam is a bookseller and the English language buyer at Albertine. 

This event is part of our Favorite French Books series in which renowned American authors come to Albertine to discuss and read from their favorite works of French literature in translation.
